And since the exhibit runs from July 5 to July 30, it won’t just be locals who get a look at the art; the thousands of people who make the pilgrimage to State College for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, which will take place from July 14 to 17 this year, will get the chance to see it too!
All artists, ages 16 and up, who live within 25 miles of State College, may submit up to two pieces for consideration; artists chosen to participate will be represented by one piece only. To be eligible, 2-D work may not exceed 36 inches in any direction and must be ready to hang. Poorly framed, poorly matted pieces, or wet work will not be considered. Unframed, stretched canvases that are securely wired are acceptable. 3-D work must fit on display pedestals that measure 18 inches by 18 inches, must be stable on its base and may be no more than 14 inches high. Free-standing sculptures (non-pedestal pieces) will not be accepted.
Entry guidelines are as follows: Please do not submit actual work. Only digital images will be accepted. Images must be in .jpg or .png format. Submit one image for 2-D work (no details); submit two images for 3-D work (front and back views). Images must be labeled with artist’s last name and first initial, medium, dimensions (h x w x d), title, and the year of creation. Submission of an image without dimensions will disqualify the image.
A list of accepted entries chosen by the Gallery Committee will be posted on schlowlibrary.org on June 15th.
The works will be judged by Juror Martha Carothers, Professor of Art at the University of Delaware, who also did graduate graphic design research at Penn State, focusing on pop-up and movable books. Carothers’ book arts often highlight text about books, reading, and typography. Carothers’ creative work has been exhibited internationally and is included in national and private collections.
Award winners will be announced at the opening reception sponsored by the Friends of Schlow Library for artists and their guests, to be held on Thursday, July 7th. Prizes will be awarded by Carothers. 1st place will receive $100, and a personal show; 2nd place will receive $50, and a personal show; 3rd place will receive $25; and Best student piece will receive $35
