With Penn State Homecoming and various other fall activities going on, there’s a lot to do this weekend. But if you’re interested in food and fun, you like motorcycles, and you want to help needy children at the same time, one event is a sure bet.
This Sunday, Oct. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Keller Williams Advantage Realty will sponsor a “Ride for Children” poker run benefiting Hope For Kids, a specialized Foster care and adoption agency in Centre County.
Starting at the Centre Hall American Legion Post (2928 Penns Valley Pike), attendees will take their motorcycle from spot to spot, eventually making their way back to the Legion, picking up a playing card at each stop along the way.
Upon returning, you can relax, eat from a barbecue chicken buffet, take part in a silent auction and 50/50 drawing, and enjoy the company of fellows riders. Once everyone has returned, each participant’s hand will be evaluated, and the person or couple with the best poker hand will receive a prize.
According to Annette Yorks, of Keller Williams, a co-worker with ties to Hope For Kids suggested the idea of sponsoring a fundraiser to help the organization.
“We like to do a lot of things for children,” Yorks said. “We thought this could be a great event for them.”
Yorks said the poker run, which is in its first year, but will become an annual event, will raise money for Hope For Kids’ children’s Christmas party.
“What they do for children is awesome. And I just don’t think there’s enough awareness,” Yorks said. “Theres a lot of people who probably didn’t even know anything about this organization and what they do. We thought this would be a great way to get their name out their and to help the kids.”
Registration costs $15 per individual rider, and $25 for each pair. The event will be held rain or shine. For more information about Hope For Kids, check out their website.
