Social media has made lending a helping hand easier than in years prior. Many organizations host contests in which they contribute a certain amount of money or supplies to a cause based on how many new “likes” are received on their Facebook page.
Right now, Explore.org is running just such a campaign. For every 5,000 new likes received in March on its “Dog Bless You” Facebook page, it will donate the money needed to train and gift a seeing eye dog to a person in need.
Helping this cause requires nothing more than the 10 seconds it takes to go to their Facebook page and click “like!”
And if this cause is particularly important to you, and you’d like to do something to help on a local level, we at the Community Foundation have a fund that supports this very cause. The Carolyn A. Petrus Memorial Seeing Eye Dog Fund was established in 2010 by the family of Carolyn Petrus, through her estate, to honor her devotion to animals and her enduring support of people with visual disabilities.
