Girl Scouts of America turns 100 this month, so many people have been sharing historical facts about the organization (which was based on an English organization called Girl Guides) , as well as their own memories of it. Personally, I have very fond memories of my time in girl scouts, from
eating selling girl scout cookies to camping in the woods to doing service projects. In case you missed it, an article in yesterday’s Centre Daily Times tells the stories of local women to whom Girl Scouts has been important, and this month’s issue of Town & Gown Magazine has a nice story about the history of the local Girl Scouts organizations, as well as some upcoming events to celebrate the centennial.
And if you would rather stare at an infographic than read news stories, (it’s Monday, who could blame you) here’s an interesting one that provides info about the percentage of congresswomen who are Girl Scouts alumnae, the record for most cookies sold by one girl, and more tidbits.
