According to Michael Brand, many board members are unprepared to make the difficult decisions that come along with running a nonprofit, and that can lead to chaos and even to an organization having to close its doors. In the upcoming session, The Financial Information Your Board Can’t Live Without Michael, Project Specialist for The Nonprofit Partnership, and Cheri H. Freeh, President of the Pennsylvania Institute for Certified Public Accountants, will talk about “The dirty little secret of boards,” which is that every day across the country board members cast votes on what to do with millions of dollar without having full information at their disposal to make good decisions.
Attendees will learn how to avoid common legal troubles, how to spot crucial financial data and ask the right questions, and how to build a financially literate board.
The program, of which The Centre County Community Foundation is a sponsor, will be held on Thursday, May 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Centre Lifelink’s headquarters, 125 Puddington Road, in State College. Attendance costs $20 at the door, or $15 if you pre-register.
