This weekend, local letter carriers will be collecting more than just mail.
As part of the national Letter Carriers’ Food Drive, Centre County residents are being asked to put out a bag of nonperishable food this Saturday along with their mail. The donations will be brought to food banks in the county and distributed.
Food banks have seen more people in need since the recession, so food drives like this one are an important way for them to be able to help as many people as possible. Last year’s Letter Carriers’ Food Drive brought in about 14 TONS of food locally!
The State College Area Food Bank’s website lists canned fruits and evaporated milk as a few of the products they are especially in need of, but any nonperishable, sealed product that is not past its sell-by date will be appreciated.
Those who live on rural routes are asked to put donations out by 8:30 a.m. to make collection easier. Donations can also be brought to local post office lobbies.
