Annual walk to raise money for juvenile diabetes research

Type 1 diabetes is a debilitating disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It usually strikes in childhood or young adulthood, and lasts a lifetime. More than 3 million Americans are estimated to have Type 1 diabetes, often called juvenile diabetes, including people right here in Central Pennsylvania.

To help raise money to combat the disease, and to raise awareness, the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will hold the annual State College JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes this Saturday, May 19, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

You can register online or at the event between 10 and 11 a.m., before the walk begins at 11.
