Habitat for Humanity tour impresses

Yesterday, a few members of our staff, including myself, went over to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County (HFHGCC), 1155 Zion Road, in Bellefonte, to talk to the administrators. HFHGCC is one of 1500 independent affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), and its goal is to make housing affordable for low income families. Since I had never been there before, we received a tour.

One of the coolest things about the place was their ReStore, a retail outlet for donated new and used building materials, such as doors, sinks, toilets, tools, and much more. Habitat sells these items to the public with generous discounts, and proceeds support Habitat’s building program.

We also got a look at the beginnings of a new house that volunteers have begun to work on. One day, the wall pictured on the right will be part of someone’s kitchen!

If you’re interested in checking out the ReStore, drop by HFHGCC’s office Wednesday through Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you want to learn more about Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County, their mission, and how you can volunteer, go to their website. And consider donating to them during our upcoming Centre Gives event, as they are one of the participants!

Thank you to Habitat for the tour!
