Locals will “Walk to End Alzheimer’s”

This fall, participants in the State College Walk to End Alzheimer’s will walk to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s, and to raise money to fund research about the disease.

The walk will take place at 10 a.m. on September 29 at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, with registration beginning earlier that morning, at 8:30.

You may think your awareness is already high when it comes to Alzheimer’s, but the Centre County Gazette presents some interesting statistics that you might not be aware of.

For example, did you know? :

  • Every 68 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer’s.
  • Alzheimer’s disease is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.
  • More than 280,000 Pennsylvanians are living with Alzheimer’s.

If those statistics disturb you, and you want to do something to help, consider participating in the State College Walk to End Alzheimer’s, either as a walker or as a donor.
