Centre County remembers 9/11

People all across the country are pausing today to remember those killed during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Our hearts go out to those who lost family and friends on that day.

Many flags are flying at half-staff today, including those on Penn State’s campus, in front of Old Main (above).

Michael Pilato adds Lt. Michael Murphy to his Inspiration mural in downtown State College.

In downtown State College, painter Michael Pilato is holding his annual 9/11 vigil at his Inspiration mural on Hiester Street. Pilato is adding Lt. Michael Murphy, a Medal of Honor recipient and Penn State graduate, to the mural. Other people depicted in the mural include the 10 Penn State alumni who died in the attacks, represented by 10 angels, and Jonas Panik, a navy officer and Walker Township resident killed at the Pentagon.

Do you know of any other commemorative events being held in the county? How are you recognizing this anniversary?
