Our Executive Director Al Jones has referred to the 2-1-1 hotline as “a dream almost realized.”
Now we can take the “almost” out of that phrase.
Tomorrow will mark the official launch of a local branch of PA 2-1-1, a hotline that allows people in need of non-emergency services related to childcare, utilities, shelter, health, legal issues, volunteer opportunities, unemployment assistance and more to find what they’re looking for with one simple phone call, just by dialing 2-1-1.
PA 2-1-1’s Central Region includes Centre County as well as 15 other counties in central Pennsylvania. In the few years since the Centre Foundation received a $225,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to support this project, countless people have worked diligently to bring 2-1-1 to our region. Now all of that behind-the-scenes work gathering information and training call operators has paid off. We are so pleased to have helped bring this important service, which is available in most of the rest of the country, to our region.
We hope you’ll join us in getting the word out about this great new resource!
